The 1,099 figure crushes 836 adoptions in 2006. Executive Director, Bill Templeman, attributes the rapid rise in adoptions the past two years to increased public awareness of the Southern Oregon Humane Society and its outstanding programs. “We also have an extraordinary group of volunteers of all ages who work hard improving the lives of the animals at SOHS. These dedicated volunteers who gave more than 16,000 hours of their time in 2007, provided our animals with the much needed training and socializing that is so important for them to make a smooth transition into a new home.” He noted that word of mouth, repeat adopters, special events, and increased exposure on local television and the internet website Petfinder.com all factor into the huge increase in adoptions.
“The mission of the Humane Society is to help save the lives of orphaned dogs and cats, and in 2007, we did that for 1099 pets! And not only have we helped to save these animal’s lives, but we’ve also helped to improve the lives of many people by matching them with a new “fur”ever friend.” says Bill Templeman, Executive Director. “I am so proud of the wonderful Board of Directors, staff and volunteers for their remarkable efforts this past year in helping to save the lives of so many deserving pets.”
“We’re helping create hundreds of new beginnings for families and animals each month, which is incredibly rewarding. We anticipate another record year in 2008 which means that even more lives will be saved!”
