Critter Cars Program
Do you have an older car that is just sitting in the driveway becoming an eyesore? Do you pay insurance on a vehicle that is not being driven? If you do, think about donating it to the Southern Oregon Humane Society. We set up this program in 2001 to give donors an alternative to cash donations. SOHS started by selling 5-10 vehicles that first year but has grown to selling 56 vehicles and bringing in $28,175.00 in 2006. Our partner for this donation avenue, Star Towing, charges us a flat fee for the towing, processing and auctioning of donated cars. All profits from this once-a-month auction come directly back to the Humane Society. The better quality the car, the more money our animals will receive. The transfer of the auto will come at no cost to you, the owner of the vehicle. The Humane Society will arrange for towing if necessary. However, we do prefer autos that are running, and are worth at least $125.00 in order to recover the cost incurred by towing and auction fees. You won't even have to pay any DMV transfer fees!
Donor Benefits
As a donor of an automobile, you may be eligible for potential tax deductions. Please visit www.irs.ustreas.gov for more details on tax rules. Also, you will avoid the time and expense required to sell the vehicle yourself. The costs incurred by registration and insurance fees will also be eliminated. And the most important benefit of all: the feeling you get knowing you have helped give countless animals the care and love they so desperately need and deserve.
